.htaccess
What is .htaccess? – Definition
The .htaccess file is the Apache webserver configuration file. For SEO, it provides the following possibilities:
- redirect settings,
- controlling access to website resources,
- page cache settings.
How to Create the .htaccess File and Use It?
Directives included in this file apply to the directory in which the file is located and to subdirectories that do not have their own configuration file. This file can be created with a standard text editor (e.g. Notepad, Notepad++) or an editor installed on the server. It should be saved using UTF-8 encoding and uploaded to the server via FTP.
The .htaccess file allows you to configure many server parameters (a full list of functions can be found in official server tutorials).
