Google Core Algorithm Update – May 2022
It’s already a tradition that we write about the core algorithm update in May or June. Google releases a broad core update several times a year. Check out what it might mean for your website, is there anything to be afraid of?
On May 25, 2022, Google announced the implementation of a new update to the core search engine algorithm. Such an update is announced several times a year (as we know, smaller updates occur almost every day) and its full implementation may take up to 2 weeks.
The last update took place in November 2021.
What Might Be the Consequences of the Google Core Algorithm Update?
The core algorithm updates are aimed at better adapting the search results to the needs of users. They can cause the page position to fluctuate, both up and down.
However, we should remember that with the so-called rollout, i.e. the time when the update is implemented, such fluctuations are normal and may stabilize. Often, a patch comes a few weeks after the update, so there’s still hope for those whose pages have dropped in ranking.
What Can You Do to Minimalize the Position Changes After the Update?
In 2019, Google released recommendations and information about updates, and they have not changed since then. This proves that the changes are going in a similar direction.
So, by optimizing the website in accordance with them, you will not expose yourself to unnecessary fluctuations.
What Google says about the updates:
- Position increases and decreases can be expected,
- Core algorithm updates do not target a specific issue but are broad, and aimed at improving the overall performance of the search engine,
- Pages that dropped in the ranking are not penalized for anything,
- To avoid fluctuations, focus on delivering high-quality content,
- Core algorithm updates occur every few months,
- Pages may not regain visibility until the next update,
- Corrections on the website do not guarantee the improvement of visibility, but their absence basically guarantees that the website will not regain its visibility.
It might seem that these guidelines are not very specific.
Experience tells that, first of all, you should not panic and implement changes immediately after seeing the charts down. After the update itself, let’s give the algorithm time to settle and the temperature in the SERPs to drop a bit.
If the SEO process is carried out systematically, according to Google’s guidelines and in accordance with the principles of safe positioning, there may be fewer reasons to worry.
