Website Tracking – The Best Tools to Track Website Traffic
Tracking the performance of your website is crucial for achieving better results. An insight into proper website stats allows you to react when there are elements that need to be improved and detect fair strengths of your site. In today’s entry, you’ll find out what website tracking tools are best to stay ahead of the curve!
I Want To Improve SEO. Where Do I Start?
With so much emphasis on your initial SEO and digital marketing goals, it might be easy to complete the launch, unveil your website and assume the hard work is done. This is not the case!
For everything from your technical design and website navigation to choosing the right keywords in your content, it’s extremely important to regularly check the status of your web analytics to constantly improve SEO and make sure your online traffic is where you want it to be.
This is important for many reasons. If there is a traffic spike, which is always good news, wouldn’t you like to know where it came from so you can repeat it in the future? Or, if there is a drop in visitors, wouldn’t you like to fix it?
With a lot of senior management (outside digital marketing teams) rarely immersed in the granular details of this work, keeping their focus on the big picture, it’s up to digital marketers and SEO specialists to find the answers to elusive questions and reveal ways we can improve on our current website and digital strategy.
Our Favourite Tools For Web Analytics
With all of this in mind, and website tracking and stats being a fundamental part of our work at Delante, we’ve identified some of the best tools to track website traffic.
It’s worth noting there is an almost overwhelming selection of tools and software available, many of which offer great functionality or reporting for slightly different purposes. There also isn’t the room to list all of them here. Still, we’ve highlighted some of our personal favorites which come highly recommended as part of any strategy…
SEMrush
Serving a handy set of tools to broadly improve SEO, SEMrush allows you to dig deeply into your own website data, perform keyword analysis scans, check your backlinks and even run competitor analysis to consider how you rank on certain criteria, compared to your business rivals. Just a warning, it can get addictive! You’ll soon be diving into your content regularly, applying changes, and eager to monitor the results.
Visual Website Optimizer (VWO)
The VWO system provides a few interesting tools, such as allowing you to test images and text elements based on how much engagement they generate. You can also initiate live web tracking to record visitor activity and observe browsing habits, noting where visitors browse on a single page or the nav menu. This helps highlight any unforeseen hurdles which may harm the customer experience or affect sales.
Leadfeeder
The highlight of Leadfeeder is the ability to view information on who has visited your website, even if no contact form is completed. It tracks their company origin through your website and can potentially dig deeper to find a username or individual member of staff. Then, armed with this data, you could pass the valuable information to sales colleagues or, perhaps a softer approach, adapt follow up messaging and comms to keep in touch with a potential customer.
Screaming Frog SEO
This system provides invaluable data and reports through a handy bot that scans your website for errors and other helpful insights. You can complete an extensive technical SEO audit and it will highlight any broken links or pages errors you may not be aware of, allowing you to mitigate technical problems customers will be facing.
Segment
Capturing customer data is super important, and we always say it’s best to ensure all marketing and sales leads are saved in a central, accessible place while keeping your records up to date. Segment is a kind of central hub that collects and cleans your customer data and, most impressively, it integrates with many other systems you may already be using such as Google Analytics and Salesforce. So, it’s a great addition to a suite of tools
